End of stamp duty holiday led to higher value purchases by first-time buyers in Scotland
Scottish first-time buyers bought higher-priced property than usual in the first quarter of 2012, taking advantage of the stamp duty concession, according to new figures released today by the Council of Mortgage Lenders in Scotland.

With the majority of first-time buyers in Wales typically buying homes under £125,000, the end of the stamp duty holiday had a smaller impact in Wales than in the UK.
Bank of Scotland has announced the extension of its pledge to pay half of the stamp duty land tax for properties up to the value of £250,000.
