The National Housing Federation welcomed the Chancellor’s decision to scrap stamp duty on homes worth up to £250,000 for first time buyers – but called on the Government to do more to get the nationalised banks to free up mortgage lending on affordable homes.

The National Housing Federation said that the Chancellor had missed a key opportunity to slash the UK’s carbon emissions and reduce energy bills by failing to back a major programme of ‘greening’ more than 250,000 social homes in the Pre-Budget Report (PBR).
