January mortgage lending increased
Total net lending to individuals rose by £2.0 billion in January. The twelve-month growth rate ticked up to
0.8%, the Bank of England reports.
Gross mortgage lending up 14% in December
Gross mortgage lending reached an estimated £13.7 billion in December, a 14% rise from £12.1 billion in November and up 3% on December 2008, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

Thousands homeless whilst homes remain empty
The Government needs to bring many of the UK’s 762,635 empty homes back into use if they are to find homes for the 72,130 families who will remain homeless and in temporary accommodation this Christmas, say the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

More first time buyers entering the market
