Responding to Gordon Brown’s announcement that housing will be a top priority for his government, David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation, said:
“Gordon Brown is saying what we have known for years: that ending our critical housing shortage is the key to prosperity and social justice for this country.
“Having a housing minister attend cabinet will help to place the issue where it belongs: at the very heart of government. The minister should use this position to make the case for a big increase in housing investment in this autumn’s comprehensive spending review. We need to deliver 210,000 new affordable homes over the next three years.”
