NAEA supports Valued at Oxfam

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) has announced its support of ‘Valued at Oxfam’, an initiative allowing people to easily donate high value items to the charity. NAEA estate agents across the country will be taking part in the campaign and promoting the opportunity to their customers.

Moving house is commonly a time when people clear out their belongings, ready for a new start. Downsizers in particular may want to reduce their belongings. In these cases, owners of valuable items that are no longer wanted can choose to donate them to charity and their estate agent is ideally placed to recommend ‘Valued at Oxfam’ as an option.

Prior to the development of this new Oxfam initiative, many people had been shying away from donating high value items. This was largely down to concerns that the charity may not get the full benefit if an item was valued incorrectly. Oxfam now has expert valuers working on its behalf to ensure that all items donated achieve a fair price.

As well as working towards the common goal of raising money for those in need through the Valued campaign, the NAEA and Oxfam share a link historically in the form of entrepreneur Cecil Jackson Cole. As a founder of Oxfam, Jackson Cole also played a vital role in the early development of the NAEA through his support of the Association’s founder, Raymond Andrews.

Peter Bolton King, Chief Executive at the NAEA, comments: “We are delighted to be helping Oxfam raise money through its Valued initiative. Quite often when moving house, people discover items hidden away that they do not want to keep any longer. These could be of great value to Oxfam.”

Brian Harley, Manager of Valued at Oxfam says: “Our successes to date directly involving people moving home include a baby grand piano, which was sold at auction and fetched several hundred pounds, and an Aprilia motorbike which sold for £2,600. All these items are not what you normally imagine Oxfam selling, but with experts valuing the donations you never know when you may uncover a high valued item.”

More information about the Valued at Oxfam service is available at www.oxfam.org.uk/valued or from any of Oxfam’s 750 high street shops. To make an enquiry about a donation of possible high value, call 0845 6033647 to speak to one of Oxfam?s experts, or e-mail valued@oxfam.org.uk.
