Porthcawl and Caernarfon are top performers

New research by Halifax Estate Agents shows that the best performing seaside towns in Wales over the past three years were Porthcawl and Caernarfon, both seeing a doubling in their average house price.

House prices in these towns have risen by 100% since 2002 to £202,614 in Porthcawl and £132,812 in Caernarfon. At a county level, Gwynedd has recorded the biggest house price rise over the past three years with a 98% increase.

The Mumbles is most expensive
The most expensive seaside town in Wales is the Mumbles with an average price of £247,274. The Mumbles is also one of the twenty most expensive seaside towns in Great Britain.

The least expensive seaside town in Wales is Rhyl with an average price of £123,626.

Colin Kemp, Managing Director, Halifax Estate Agents, said: “More and more home buyers in Wales want to own a piece of the seaside and this has meant that seaside towns have seen some of the strongest house price rises in the country over the past three years.

Firm demand for second homes has clearly been a factor pushing up prices near the sea but regeneration efforts in seaside towns has also been a positive for house prices in these areas.”
