The Bank of England has revealed that more mortgages were approved for house purchase in December than any month since May 2004.

A total of 122,000 mortgages were approved during December which is an increase of more than a quarter since late 2004.

The news comes hot on the heels of Nationwide’s January House Price Index, in which further evidence of a upturn in the market was confirmed
