Mortgage repossession orders go up

Mortgage repossession orders during the past three months in England and Wales were up 66% to 19,687.

That figure is up when compared with 11,862 repossession orders a year ago.

The Department for Constitutional Affairs figures report that the total number of homeowners being taken to court by lenders as a result of mortgage debt rose 55% to 29,991.

That figure, does not not reflect the number of properties taken into possession, but counts the number of actions entered in county courts in England and Wales.

Under those terms, the parties involved can still negotiate a compromise.

The latest figure for possession orders compares with a rise of 61% for the three months to June after the DCA last announced figures in July.
